Back from Vacation

I spent a wonderful week in Cape Cod with my fabulous family and took over 600 pictures. I went through them quickly last night and took out the blurry/awful ones but I still have over 500.  I love having a great camera but sometimes the massive amount of pictures I take with it overwhelm me.  I'm going to try to go through them tonight and post my favorites.

On another topic, I'm looking for a good idea on how to store the digital picture files for back up. I upload them to Snapfish albums and currently I make DVDs for each year of pictures and plan on storing them in a photo box (got the box, just need to put them in there).  But now I'm thinking storing them on a USB drive would be better since who knows how long DVDs will be around.  I'm sure the next thing is coming soon.  I also have a ridiculous fear of losing all my pictures in a fire so storing USB drives in our fireproof safe would be easier than storing the DVDs.

What do you do to keep your precious pictures safe?  Any good ideas I can steal?

  1. I use an external hard drive (this one to be exact http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Western+Digital+-+My+Book+Essential+2TB+External+USB+3.0/2.0+Hard+Drive+-+Black/1251309.p?id=1218242900307&skuId=1251309) which reminds me I REALLY need to do a back up soon haven't done it in about 3 months.

I did get the 2TB one so that should last me a while storage wise lol

  2. I was thinking about getting an external hard drive but then if you plug it into the computer and the computer has a virus doesn't the hard drive get infected too? I'm so paranoid about losing my pictures, lol.

  3. I also use an external hard drive, and I try to back them up every couple of weeks. I always keep the pictures on my SD card until they have also been backed up on the external hard drive. You could store the external hard drive in the fire proof safe, if you wanted to.

This is the one I have, and love:
